Pastor's Newsletter MAR 2017

Dear Church Family,

It seems most fitting to write this month with a short tribute to Marcia Evans.  We mourned her passing from this life February 8, and also celebrated her deliverance from suffering and presence with the Lord at her memorial service February 13.

One of my earliest memories of Marcia was when we served together as Sunday School teachers at First Baptist in Maryville from 1998-2001.  I actually made the phone call to invite her to teach the Pre-school class, as I was serving on the nominating committee at that time.  I still remember her enthusiasm to say “YES” and she added that she would “always enjoy teaching children”.  It blessed my heart as well as I had made numerous phone calls that evening and she was the only one who said yes to anything.

For the next 4 years I taught the adult special education class right across the hall from her room each Sunday and got to know Mike and Marcia so well during those years.  It was special to see her finish her degree at NWMSU during that time as well.

I still remember her text message to me from Cape Girardeau after Mike’s initial heart attack in 2012.  She just stated that “Mike’s recovery will be a long time.  Please take care of the church for us in Rock Port”. I knew it later as part of God’s call in my life, and a time for me to say “YES” to the Lord as well.

Thanks to all who helped with the service February 13.  We were very full and our facility was very well used.  May God be praised as we served together and cared for those in sorrow.  I have been thinking some about changes we may need to make in the future to our building.  Some may be big, some may be small, some may become reality, some may only be a dream to spur us on in our service.  In any event we will seek the Lord’s will together.

As we prepare for the month of March I am grateful to have finished teaching Colossians February 19.  This study was one of the most heart inspiring for me to love and serve Jesus.  I will have all the outlines on our church website soon.  Please check out any you may have missed at

For March we will begin a study of Hebrews that should continue through May.  We will also start some children’s skit rehearsals for a presentation in morning worship April 9  “Palm Sunday Live”.  Please make plans to participate and attend.  Our Easter schedule for April 16 will remain the same as previous years with a sunrise service and breakfast.   There will be more on this in the April newsletter.

Please also consider the Annie Armstrong Easter offering for North American missionaries during the next 7 weeks of services.  This is a special time for us to give to the Lord, not necessarily a large gift, but a sacrificial one that will anoint Him as Lord of our lives.  May it be a special and personal time of worship for each of us.

With you in the Lord’s service,

Richard Boettner, pastor
