Pastor's Newsletter AUG 2017

Dear Church Family,

I am grateful to be writing from Springfield again this year as Bing attends state meetings with her teaching job, and I use the time to get refreshed and make preparations before the Lord for our church in the upcoming school year.

Thank you for your words of affirmation as I plan to continue serving as pastor for this school year through May 2018.  Good words of communication are helpful at this time: what we are doing well, what we could do better or change to do something different.

I have given notice to Maryville High School that this will be my final year of work with the vocal music as an accompanist and support teacher.  I should be able to call it good at 10 years at that point and focus more on work and ministry in Rock Port by May 2018.  Bing intends to keep teaching until 2021 so at that point we will begin a 3 year process of preparing a place to live in Rock Port and allow her to finish her career with Missouri public school retirement.

As always in speaking of the future we recognize our responsibility to plan, but relying on God’s ultimate purpose and will to prevail.  This means we can and will “shift gears” quickly to move where the Lord leads even in unexpected circumstances.  We have the promise of the Lord’s ongoing presence until the end of the age (Mt. 28:20) and that Jesus will be the same tomorrow as He is today (Heb. 13:8).

Last month we did complete the book of Hebrews, and as promised, here is a complete list of message titles:

Jesus:  The Son of God (Hebrews 1)

Jesus:  Brings Complete Salvation (Hebrews 2)

Jesus:  The Faithful Builder (Hebrews 3)

Jesus:  The Great High Priest, part 1 (Hebrews 4)

Jesus:  The Obedient Savior (Hebrews 5)

Jesus:  The Anchor for My Soul (Hebrews 6)

Jesus:  He Lives Forever (Hebrews 7)

Jesus:  The Great High Priest, part 2 (Hebrews 8)

Jesus:  The Power of His Blood (Hebrews 9)

Jesus:  Established the New Covenant (Hebrews 10:1-18)

Jesus:  Encourages a Loving Fellowship (Hebrews 10:19-39)

Jesus:  The Foundation of Faith (Hebrews 11:1-19)

Jesus:  The Foundation of Faith, part 2 (Hebrews 11:20-40)

Jesus:  The Perfecter of Faith (Hebrews 12:1-3)

Jesus:  The One Who Disciplines Us (Hebrews 12:4-17)

Jesus:  The Constant Helper of His Church (Hebrews 13:1-8)

Jesus:  The Great Shepherd of His Church (Hebrews 13:9-25)

Throughout the teaching of Hebrews I felt God prompting me to cross reference and study 1 Corinthians about what it means to be spiritual in the church and to establish a loving church that is also orderly and mature in its exercise of spiritual gifts.  So we will begin a study of 1 Corinthians August 6 and continue through the school year.  As we did with Romans in 2015-16, since 1 Corinthians is also a long book, we will take some “rest stop” breaks and consider other topics and guest speakers along the journey.

A year ago here in Springfield I began our church website at  The cost for this has been my own gift to our church and I am grateful to see how God has used it this past year.  We have had at least 4 visitors to our morning worship that mentioned finding us because of this website.  Total hits are at 3130, and allowing for my administration that could be an estimate of over 2400 visits to the site.  I am going to work at keeping it updated as nothing from Hebrews is available on the site yet, and that will change soon.  If you have something to contribute please let me know.

With you in the Lord’s service,

Richard Boettner, pastor
